Mayor Bill de Blasio says he had a “candid” but “respectful” meeting Wednesday with Donald Trump in which he told the president-elect that many New Yorkers are fearful of his planned policies for the White House.

“I tried to express to him how much fear there is in communities all over this city [and that there are] a whole range of people in the city and in this country that are fearful” of how a Trump administration would run America, de Blasio said outside Trump Tower after meeting there with the president-elect for 62 minutes.

Positioning himself as the national voice of progressives, de Blasio read off a laundry list of concerns he raised with Trump. They included immigrant deportations, having cops beef up stop-and-frisk tactics and potential mistreatment of Muslim Americans.
