In a new YouTube video, Arnold Schwarzenegger wants to “terminate” #Climate Change skeptics. In the video, the former California governor and #Hollywood actor has once again threatened global warming skeptics with death, saying he “would like to strap their mouth to the exhaust pipe of a truck, turn on the engine.” Schwarzenegger conflates the threat of carbon monoxide in his message to political leaders who are trying to stop the EPA from regulating carbon dioxide (CO2), not carbon monoxide (CO).
Carbon monoxide is an odorless, colorless gas that swiftly kills human beings exposed to it for a short period as it binds to red blood cells, depriving the body of oxygen. Carbon dioxide is also an odorless, colorless gas but is not toxic to humans until you reach levels as found on the planet Mars, which has an atmosphere of 97 percent carbon dioxide.
Currently, CO2 is responsible for all life on Earth as it is used by nearly all vegetation and microbes via a complex metabolic process. The amount of CO2 as measured by the Mauna Lau observatory stayed at 400 parts per million for the entire year of 2015. That’s roughly 0.04 percent of the atmosphere. That’s not a typo: 0.04 percent.
