U.S. Secretary of Defense Ash Carter paid a visit to Fort Leonard Wood Wednesday to thank soldiers for their service in the war against ISIL.
Carter said he decided to make the trip after visiting Iraq where soldiers battling ISIL told him they learned many of their skills at Fort Leonard Wood.
“This is an absolutely fantastic place, essential to our army,” Carter said.Carter said U.S. military members are respected around the nation and world for their skills and for other reasons as well. “It’s also how you conduct yourselves and what you stand for,” he said, speaking to an audience of about 90 service members.
“We stand for the things that other people want, a better future for their children and the security that allows them to live their lives and do the things that make life meaningful,” he said.
