Donald Trump raked in $1.3 million from South Carolina donors at a fundraiser on Friday, a figure his team is hailing as a state record for a single event, according to two people involved.

The event provided a bright spot for the campaign amid a weak of mounting allegations of sexual assault, souring relations with Republican leaders and more state and national polls showing Trump trailing Hillary Clinton.

The event, which took place on the North Carolina side of the border, raised a total of $1.5 million, but $1.3 million of that came from South Carolina donors, according to that state’s Lt. Gov. Henry McMaster and a campaign official who was not authorized to speak about fundraising on the record.

The previous South Carolina record belonged to the $1.1 million haul at a 2004 fundraiser for George W. Bush, hosted by then-South Carolina House member David Wilkins, who went on to serve as Bush’s ambassador to Canada.

Friday’s event was initially scheduled to take place in Charleston, South Carolina, this summer but was postponed and rescheduled to accommodate Trump’s campaign schedule, which had him holding a rally in Charlotte, North Carolina, on Friday.
