A woman who responded to a terminal cancer diagnosis by refusing chemotherapy and going on one final road trip has died aged 91.
Norma Bauerschmidt, from Michigan, inspired thousands by posting about her travels on Facebook.
She passed away in a bed in her motor home in which she clocked up more than 13,000 miles, across 34 states, with her son, Tim, and his wife, Ramie Liddle.
The journey started in July last year when Mrs Bauerschmidt was diagnosed with uterine cancer. This was just two days after the death of her husband, Leo.
Rather than going to a nursing home, she was given the option of joining her son and daughter-in-law in their Airstream trailer.
‘She thought about it for about a minute-and-a-half and said, “Yes”. She was ready for an adventure,’ Ms Liddle told the BBC.
‘One of the first things we did was buy a wheelchair for her, and that was her ticket to freedom.
