Police in Champaign, Ill., are investigating a shooting near the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus.

The shooting was reported before 2 a.m. ET Sunday between Third and Fourth streets in Champaign, less than a mile from campus, according to the university’s alert service.

The shooter fled from the scene and is on the loose, according to the university alert.

Champaign police confirmed the shooting on Twitter but did not say how many injuries there were, if any.

A snapchat recorded by student Kathryn Lawlor and published by The Daily Illini Editor Masaki Sugimoto captures multiple shots being fired.

Update:

Police report 4 shot, one dead from shooting. Another person who ran from the shooting was hit by a car and injured. Dead man is identified as George Korchev of Illinois.

There was also a shooting at a second location, wounding one, which police believe may be related.

Police are reporting the shooting may be due to a fight that started at a party and then moved outside to the street.
