TX (KEYE/CNN) β After a veterinarian diagnosed 12-year-old Spunky with cancer, his owner fulfilled her promise that he would get to see snow again.
Ashley Niels says she was shocked when she took her dog to the vet and was told he had cancer. She was told there was nothing that could be done for him.
Amidst her grief, Niels remembered she had promised her snow-loving dog that he would see snow again. The two had moved from Wisconsin to Texas years earlier.
βIt really kind of crushed me that I would have to break that,β Niels said.
But Niels turned to Facebook for help, and her friends answered her call. They rented a backyard snow-machine for Spunky.
“It was really touching. They wanted to make sure I didn’t have to break that promise to him,β Niels said.
So much snow was produced that a local animal shelter allowed other dogs to join in the fun. Niels says the memory of that day will stick with her forever.
