I’ll take my chances with “climate change.”

Top Obama administration officials have characterized the threat from climate change as “more terrifying” and “more potentially destructive and destabilizing” than a host of other threats, including terrorism and diseases like Zika and Ebola.

In a Wednesday blog post titled “Integrating Climate Change into National Security Planning”, United Nations ambassador Samantha Power and senior advisor Brian Deese argue about the affects of climate change could have catastrophic outcomes if not addressed. “For all the challenges and threats we face as a nation—from terrorist groups like ISIL and al Qaeda to increasingly sophisticated cyber attacks, from diseases like Ebola and Zika to Russian aggression in Ukraine—no threat is more terrifying in its global reach or more potentially destructive and destabilizing than climate change,” Power and Deese write.

The officials also announce in the post that President Obama has issued a memorandum directing the federal government to “fully consider the impacts of climate change in the development and implementation of all national security policies and plans” and instructing executive agencies to create a working group to address this issue.
