Runners would have been passing the bomb when it went off, except the race start was delayed.
SEASIDE PARK — One explosive device went off, and another was found, along the route of a 5K run and walk to benefit military soldiers Saturday morning.
No one was injured in the blast, but federal and state law enforcement agencies were deployed and were still investigating the scene around 11:30 a.m., according to Al Della Fave, spokesman for the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office.
A second device was found around 11 a.m. in the vicinity of where the explosion occurred, Della Fave said. However, it was unclear at this time whether that device also detonated, or was merely found by authorities.
According to News 12 and CNN, Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office spokesman Al Della Fave says “multiple additional devices” were wired to the pipe bomb that was detonated, but the others did not go off.
