Still time for Commish Goodell to issue a cease and desist letter.

Via WSBTV:

Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Mohamed Sanu plans to pay tribute to those who lost their lives on Sept. 11 in a special way in the season opener.

Sanu, a New Jersey native, posted on Instagram the custom cleats he will wear as the Falcons take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Sunday at the Georgia Dome.

The shoes depict an American flag, New York’s Twin Towers and the phrase “Never Forget.”

“There are lots of people affected by that day,” Sanu told ESPN. “You just have to show your respect and pay homage to those who were lost and gave their lives to save others. And you have to pay homage to those who saved lived and are still alive today. That’s how I see it.”

Sunday marks 15 years since terrorist attacks claimed thousands of lives in New York, the Pentagon and Pennsylvania.

Sanu told ESPN that nobody in his family, or friends of the immediate family, died as the result of the attacks, but that some of the families at his school were affected.
