Sound bite for the Feel the Bern’ers.
Sen. Bernard Sanders on Sunday said that Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton should cut ties with the Clinton Foundation if elected in November.
“Well, I would certainly suggest that, as president of the United States, she should cease all operations, all contact with the Clinton Foundation,” the Vermont senator said on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” “At the very least, she should not be involved, at the very least.”
The advice from Mr. Sanders, who placed second to Mrs. Clinton in the Democratic presidential primary, comes with the foundation facing accusations of “pay-to-play” from donors who received access to the State Department during her tenure as secretary.
The Associated Press reported last week that more than half of the private parties that Mrs. Clinton met with as secretary of state were also contributors to the Clinton Foundation.
NBC anchor Chuck Todd asked if Mr. Sanders would feel “more comfortable if it just didn’t exist during her time as president.”
“I don’t know enough,” Mr. Sanders said. “They do a lot of good things with AIDS and so forth.”
