ST. LOUIS • A protester has been found guilty of assaulting a police officer after wiping pepper spray from her arm onto the St. Louis police chief’s shirt during a 2015 protest.
Elizabeth Vega, 49, faces up to a year in jail on the misdemeanor when sentenced on Nov. 21. Jurors deliberated for about an hour and 40 minutes before returning their verdict Wednesday.
Vega, of the 2200 block of Portis Avenue, was arrested on May 19, 2015, amid the protest outside the home of Circuit Attorney Jennifer Joyce, who lives in the Holly Hills neighborhood north of Carondelet Park. They went to Joyce’s house the evening after Joyce announced she would not prosecute a police officer who shot and killed VonDerrit Myers Jr., 18, in an exchange of gunfire in the Shaw neighborhood of St. Louis on Oct. 8, 2014.
