When he was running for president in 2008, then-Sen. Barack Obama ridiculed President George W. Bush for flying over hurricane-damaged New Orleans in Air Force One three years earlier and looking out the window.

But on Monday, the White House rejected criticism that it was “bad optics” for Mr. Obama to play golf repeatedly on vacation while rejecting calls to visit the flood zone.

“They’ve got to find something to criticize the president about,” said White House press secretary Josh Earnest.

He said although Mr. Obama was on the links during the flooding,” the president was focused on the federal response.”

In 2008, Mr. Obama blasted Mr. Bush as “a president who only saw the people from a window on an airplane instead of down here on the ground, trying to provide comfort and aid.”
