Obamas won’t return to the Vineyard on their own dime.
Via Cape Cod Times:
The last family vacation for President Barack Obama as the nation’s commander in chief came to a close Sunday much as it began — with a round of golf.
Obama and his family boarded Air Force One around 6:35 p.m. at Joint Base Cape Cod without much hoopla and headed back to Washington. There were no well-wishers, as has been custom in past departures at the base.
The seventh presidential vacation on the island in eight years was par for the course, with lots of golf, lots of eating out, a little bit of fundraising and the usual amount of criticism the head of the country faces while taking 14 days off.
Obama hit the greens on his usual spots: Farm Neck Golf Club, Mink Meadows, and Vineyard Golf Club. The lefty also didn’t make too much room for new golf partners, often hitting with Miami Heat legends Ray Allen and Alonzo Mourning. The Obamas did hit the sand quite a bit, visiting Kohlberg Beach and other private spots, according to White House pool press reports.
According to the White House, the president was briefed on the riots in Milwaukee and is scheduled to go to Louisiana on Tuesday to see the damage caused by historic flooding in the region.
The 44th president did catch flak for continuing to stay on the island while thousands of homes were in damaged in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. During a Hillary Clinton fundraiser at Carol and Hank Goldberg’s home in Chilmark, Obama stated that the First Lady is very strict about keeping their vacation time actually vacation time, although it was in the context of him speaking at the event.
He has only disrupted the vacation once, in 2014, when he and his daughter, Malia, flew back to Washington D.C. amid a series of military airstrikes in Iraq and rising tensions in Ferguson, Missouri. He skipped the trip in 2008, the year of his reelection campaign.
