I’m not sure how this report squares with the prior report that the FBI had been turned down by the DOJ. I believe the request was to pursue it under the public integrity section so that may have been turned down, but it wouldn’t preclude investigations by other departments. U.S. Attorney Bharara has had a good track record of taking on politicians of all stripes.
