Officials say a man was shot while attempting to break into someone’s house.

According to reports, a 15-year-old was watching a home while the homeowners were attending the funeral for a loved one who’d passed earlier in the week.

Sheriff Ray Watson says the teen told his investigators a man came onto the property as if he was going to try and get into a nearby garage, and that he appeared to be snooping to break into the home.

Deputies say the teen reported that he then approached the man, and the man went to reach behind his back as if he was going to grab something. Then, the teen told deputies, is when he fired a shot at the man.

The 15-year-old told deputies he believes he shot the man in the leg.

When deputies responded to the scene, they found a small amount of blood.

Bloodhounds tracked the man’s trail of blood for about a quarter of mile and then the trail abruptly stopped. Deputies believe the ending blood trail is consistent with the possibility that there had been a vehicle waiting for the individual.
