A police officer with the Washington, D.C. Metro transit system has been arrested because he tried to support ISIS, federal prosecutors say.
Nicholas Young, of Fairfax, Virginia, was arrested without incident at Metro headquarters, NBC News reports.This is the first time a law enforcement officer has been accused of aiding the terrorist organization, authorities tell NBC News national security reporter Ken Dilanian.
Young, 36, is accused of buying 22 gift cards for mobile messaging apps with the intention to aid ISIS overseas, court records say. The FBI conducted an undercover sting during the investigation, NBC News reports.
He posed no credible threat to the Metro system, U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia spokesman Joshua Stueve told NBC News.
