Another lovely summer weekend in Chicagoland…

CHICAGO (CBS) — Five people were killed and at least 31 others have been wounded in shootings across Chicago since Friday evening.

The weekend’s latest homicide happened early Sunday in the West Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side.

Latrell Gipson, 27, was walking on the sidewalk in the 200 block of North Kostner about 1 a.m. when he heard shots and felt pain, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Gipson, who lived in the 1000 block of North Parkside, was shot in the head and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 1:10 a.m., authorities said.

About 7:15 p.m. Saturday, a 21-year-old man was shot to death in the Woodlawn neighborhood on the South Side.
