Rest in peace.

Via Daily Mail:

An American man who joined anti-ISIS forces in Syria to fight the Islamic terrorists has been killed on the front line.

Levi Shirley, from Arvada, Colorado, died after he stepped on a landmine in the northern city of Manbij – a city coalition forces are trying to take back from the jihadis.

The 24-year-old vigilante left his family home in January to fight 'injustices' alongside the Kurdish troops.

He had dreamed of being a Marine, like his Vietnam veteran father, but couldn't enlist because of his poor eyesight.

The forces still barred him from signing up even after he'd had surgery to fix the problem.

His mother, Susan Shirley, told NBC News: 'It's about as bad as you might think. It's every parent's worst nightmare.

She added that her son was 'soft-hearted' and wanted to 'fight injustice'.

Shirley was nicknamed Heval Agir – meaning 'friend' – by his fellow fighters.

He first went to the Middle East in February 2015, but returned in June.

Shortly after getting home, he told his family he would never go back.

But in January he said he was going to train as an EMT in Texas, and his parents never heard from him again.

The Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG), who he fought with, posted a tribute to Shirley on Facebook.
