Can't say I would be sad to see Erdogan's Islamist government tossed from power.
Via Daily Mail:
The Turkish military has started a coup to depose the nation's government according to prime minister Binali Yildirim.
Istanbul's Bosphorus Bridge and Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge were both closed on Friday, local television channels reported, without giving a reason.
Dogan News Agency footage showed cars and buses being diverted.
CNN Turkey showed two military vehicles and a group of soldiers lined up at the entrance of one of the bridges in Turkey's biggest city.
A Turkish official who did not want to be named said soldiers had been deployed in other cities in Turkey, but did not specify which ones.
Dogan News Agency reported the national police directorate summoned all police to duty in Ankara.
Turkish fighter jets have been reported over Ankara.
Gunfire has been reported.
Yildirim on Friday denounced what he said was an 'illegal attempt' by elements in the military after bridges were partially shut down in Istanbul and jets flew low over Ankara.

Ankara Mayor urging people into the streets. Probably not a smart idea in the middle of a military coup…
Ankara mayor's twitter is still good, though…

It appears to be a coup not only against the Erdogan government but by the military against the army brass in charge.

Update:
Various battles are being fought, most notably at the TRT TV station, Parliament and the Intel and Police HQs, with the military firing on pro-Erdogan elements.
People loyal to Erdogan however have come out into the streets after his call.

Update:
Ataturk Airport was also bombed. Erdogan spoke from there at some point, not clear if before or after bombing.
The government keeps claiming that the coup has been repelled, at the same time that bombings are happening and coup plotters are taking over TV stations.
Erdogan spoke earlier at the airport but has since flown out. The reference to Pennsylvania is because he believes the Gulenists are behind the coup, their leader is in exile in PA. They have denied involvement.
Update:
Erdogan claims coup is over. But there's still some fighting going on. If the coup loses, be prepared for a purge of everyone in opposition to Erdogan.
