R.I.P. and may the families have peace.
Via NY Post:
Memorial services were held Wednesday for three of the Dallas police officers slain by a sniper at a Black Lives Matter protest last week, with each man solemnly saluted for his courage and ultimate sacrifice.
In separate church gatherings, dress-uniformed fellow cops and tearful family members gathered by the hundreds to say goodbye to Dallas Area Rapid Transit Officer Brent Thompson, 43, and the Dallas police department’s Senior Cpl. Lorne Ahrens, 48, and Sgt. Michael Smith, 55.
At each gathering, the fallen heroes were remembered as husbands, dads and warriors, and calls for perseverance rose above the mournful sounds of bagpipes and church organ hymns.“We took a gut punch,” DART Police Chief J.D. Spiller told mourners at a service for Thompson, a newlywed who married a fellow DART officer just two weeks before his death.
“But here we are,” the chief added. “We’re standing tall … This is what Brent would want us to do.”
Thompson’s wife and colleague, Emily, called the shooter, Micah Johnson — a racist madman who also injured nine other officers and two civilians — a coward.
