A Democratic congresswoman who was recently indicted on federal fraud charges accused the Justice Department of not doing its due diligence, arguing that the Orlando nightclub massacre may not have happened if the agency hadn't spent so much time investigating her.

Rep. Corrine Brown (D-FL) told reporters on Friday that the DOJ's priorities weren't in order since they spent time looking into her charity instead of the Orlando shooter.

“These are the same agents that was not able to do a thorough investigation of the agent, and we ended up with 50 people dead,” she said, referring to shooter Omar Mateen.

Brown and her chief of staff were charged with 24 counts of fraud and other federal offenses linked to her charity, One Door for Education Foundation Inc. Both pleaded not guilty.

The congresswoman's lawyer, Elizabeth White, echoed those sentiments, calling the investigation into Brown "a waste of resources," according to First Coast News.
