A white Detroit detective was demoted for a Facebook post that called the Black Lives Matter movement “terrorists” and “racists.”
Nathan Weekley, a 17-year veteran of the Detroit Police Department, was demoted from a detective in the Sex Crimes Unit to a patrol officer after an offensive Facebook post appeared on his personal page on July 8, Police Chief James Craig announced in a press conference Monday.
“For the first time in my nearly 17 years as a law enforcement officer I contemplated calling in to work in response to the outrageous act perpetrated against my brothers,” Weekly wrote on Facebook. “It seems like the only response that will demonstrate our importance to society as a whole. The only racists here are the piece of s— black Lives Matter terrorists and their supporters.”
Weekley’s scathing post came after five police officers were killed in Dallas on Thursday — a week that also saw cops fatally shoot Alton Sterling in Louisiana and Philando Castile in Minnesota.
“It’s not about white or black,” Craig said at the conference. “When you put on this uniform, you can’t make statements that contradict what we stand for as a department.”
