A police officer was reportedly shot in Randolph County on Saturday.

A Randolph County Sheriff's deputy was shot and injured Saturday, according to Helfin police and media reports. He was transported to UAB hospital. 

A person was apparently taken hostage by the suspect, according to reports. 

Lake Wedowee Life Magazine posted to its Facebook page that there is a reported hostage situation in the Swagg Cove Area of Lake Wedowee.

County Road 121 is blocked at County Road 431, according to the report.

SWAT team is staging at Bethel West Baptist Church on County Road 329 in Randolph County. 

The Heflin Police Department posted this to its Facebook page Saturday afternoon: "Please be praying for our Randolph County brother pfficers, Heflin PD officers, and all other L.E. officers responding to assist in stopping the Madness in Randolph County."

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is assisting the Randolph County Sheriff's Office.

Situation unfolding on County road 7 in Randolph County.  Suspect in camper with guns holding police at bay. The incident began around Swagg, AL. Subject set fire to son’s house, yard and car and killed the sons dog. He is armed with a 9mm handgun and a rifle. Possible hostage in camper with subject is his wife.

 Shots were fired, officers returned fire, subject still in the camper with possible tech-9 9mm pistol and a rifle woman in camper is his wife, who is being held hostage, not accessory. 
 
Oxford SWAT has been called in for staging.

The suspect is dead following a hostage situation, Randolph County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Larry Clarke said.

The hostage is OK, he said.
