Three of the five officers killed by gunfire in Dallas on Thursday night have been identified by those close to them.
Police named the first victim as Officer Brent Thompson, 43, who was a six-year veteran of the Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) police.
Thompson is the first DART officer to ever be killed in the line of duty and had just been married to one of his fellow officer two weeks ago. He was also a grandfather.
The second dead officer has been identified by a family member as Patrick Zamarripa of the Dallas Police Department.
Zamarripa and his girlfriend Kristy are the parents of a young daughter. Kristy posted a photo of herself and their daughter at a Texas Rangers game on Thursday night and tagged Patrick so he would get the picture while he was working in Dallas.
The third deceased officer has been identified as 27-year-old Michael Krol, who is originally from Michigan, but moved to Dallas in 2007 where he started working for the Dallas Police Department.
The gunman has been identified by members of law enforcement as 25-year-old Micah Xavier Johnson.
Johnson reportedly told law enforcement officials he was an Army veteran, acted alone and he was 'upset at white people.'
