What were the perp’s chances he would attack someone in NYC that was legally allowed to carry?

Via NY Post:

The off-duty NYPD cop who fatally shot a motorist during a road-rage incident in Brooklyn was identified by police sources Monday as three-year veteran Wayne Isaacs.

Isaacs allegedly fired three shots, two of which struck victim Delron Dempsey in the chest and head, as Dempsey pummeled Isaacs through his open car window, sources said.

The violence erupted after Isaacs and Dempsey, both 37, almost collided at the intersection of Atlantic Avenue and Bradford Street in Cypress Hills around 12:15 a.m. Monday, sources said.

Their cars came to a stop on opposite sides of Atlantic Avenue with a taxi in between, and when the cab pulled away, Dempsey — who was traveling with his girlfriend, a baby boy and a teenage girl — got out of his car and charged over to attack Isaacs, sources said.

Issacs — who was wearing civilian clothing and headed home after finishing a 4 p.m. to midnight shift at the 79th Precinct in Bedford-Stuyvesant — pulled out his pistol from underneath a white T-shirt and opened fire, sources said.

Spent shell casings were found inside Isaac’s car, supporting his account of the incident, sources said.

“The officer was being assaulted and there was no opportunity for him to de-escalate the situation when someone ran across the street and attacked him. He’s a victim, trapped in his vehicle,” one source said.
