Chicago 25 Jun Shootings

Gun control in Chicago is called Pray and Spray.

Via Chicago Tribune:

Four people were killed and at least 26 others have been wounded across the city since Saturday morning, police said.

Among the victims were a 19-year-old pregnant woman shot along with three friends in Morgan Park; a 55-year-old man killed at a party in East Garfield Park; and a man shot by another person as they sat together in a car in Edgewater Beach.

The Morgan Park attack occurred at 11:43 a.m. in the 1400 block of West 114th Place, said Officer Jose Estrada, a police spokesman.

A 20-year-old woman shot in the back and left leg and a 23-year-old man shot in the buttocks were in critical condition at Stroger Hospital, while a 19-year-old woman shot in the right leg and back was in critical condition at Advocate Christ Medical Center, Estrada said. A 20-year-old man shot in the left leg was in good condition at Stroger.

Derrick Wright, 21, who lives at the house where the shooting happened, said he, his sister and a close friend were hanging out on the front porch with the four victims Saturday morning. Wright went inside the house to get his girlfriend some ice water and as he was walking out, he heard multiple gunshots.

“When I heard that, that’s when they dived into the house,” Wright said.

Wright’s younger brother flung himself on top of Wright’s girlfriend and Wright’s friend’s girlfriend to shield them with his body, resulting in him getting shot, said Wright’s friend.

“I’ve never seen anybody get shot this close to me,” said the friend, who said his injured girlfriend, the 19-year-old woman, is three months pregnant. “I’ve never seen bullet holes out somebody’s body before. To see that on my baby momma? That makes me think even harder. It pisses me off, but retaliation brings more drama. I should just call it a day and move the hell out of Chicago.”

Both of the women and Wright’s younger brother kept saying, “We hit.” Everyone was panicking, Wright said. Also injured was Wright’s sister’s fiance, the 23-year-old man.

“I was just with my girl,” Wright said. “I’m really hurt right now.”
