Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren is being vetted by Hillary Clinton’s campaign to be a running mate, according to a person familiar with the process.
Warren, a liberal champion, is among several potential Democratic leaders who are being “seriously considered” for the role, this person said. Vetting includes examining a candidate’s past policy positions, viewing financial documents, and conducting interviews with the potential pick.
The Associated Press reported earlier today that Warren is on Clinton’s short list with at least two others: Virginia Senator Tim Kaine, a well-liked lawmaker from an important general election battleground state; and Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julian Castro of Texas, a rising star in the Democratic Party.
Since Clinton sewed up the nomination, Warren has become a highly visible backer. The two women met for about an hour at Clinton’s home in Washington and Warren stopped by Clinton’s campaign headquarters to give a pep talk and tape a video attacking presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump.
