Hillary and Babs

Hillary is a chameleon.

Via The Hill:

Sen. Barbara Boxer defended Hillary Clinton against the criticism that the presumptive Democratic nominee is “inauthentic,” calling her “WASPy” with a “Midwest authenticity.”

The California senator’s remarks came during a discussion for her new book, “The Art of Tough: Fearlessly Facing Politics and Life” with the Free Library of Philadelphia, as BuzzFeed first reported.

“You know, people say, they say to me, ‘You’re so authentic, and Hillary’s not authentic.’ No, it’s not true,” Boxer said. “I’m authentic. I’m from Brooklyn. This is my life. So is Bernie. I can’t see Hillary saying, ‘It’s gonna be yuge.’ It’s not her. Her authenticity is Midwest authenticity. Her authenticity is being a policy wonk and working for us.”

Boxer said Clinton’s tough spirit comes from her long career in politics.

“When Hillary came into the Senate … remember, she was first lady, then she ran for the Senate from New York,” Boxer said. “You go through that gauntlet, talk about needing to be tough.”

She said that the personality trait that gets criticized shouldn’t be looked at as a “negative.”

“She is authentic. Hillary is Hillary,” she said. “She’s not going to be Barbara Boxer or you know — she didn’t grow up in Brooklyn like I did. She’s different. She’s WASPy.”

The crowd at the discussion broke into laughter.

“Finally, I met one I adore.”
