The German state of Bavaria is looking to hire more foreign police officers to deal with the growing immigrant population.
Bavaria has hired 159 foreign police officers over the past 23 years. This number will increase significantly over the next few years, according to Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann, in an attempt to better handle the growing immigrant population.
“Experience has shown that our officials with foreign roots have a better connection to foreign citizens,” Herrmann said at a press conference Monday. “Public servants of foreign origin are the best example of successful integration.”
Herrmann’s plan is to deploy the foreign officers in immigrant neighborhoods where large portions of the population don’t speak German.
