The University of California system is taking steps to further fund the education of undocumented students on top of previous allocations.
UC President Janet Napolitano announced on Wednesday a proposal of $25.2 million through 2019 for educational resources targeted at unauthorized immigrant students.
The proposal focuses on funding the UC Dream Loan Program, which will receive $5 million a year for three years, if not longer. $2.5 million in annual funding will also go to staff coordinators, student fellowships, textbooks, and other areas of financial support. The UC Undocumented Legal Services Center will receive $900,000 a year.
Napolitano has sought to fund the education of undocumented students since she because president in 2013. She launched the Undocumented Students Initiative, which allocated $5 million for those students.
