A “despondent, agitated and incoherent” man who climbed on top of a light rail train early Thursday morning says he wants to disrupt the morning commute, according to authorities.
He is having that effect as light rail trains are not running in either direction through the Component Station in North San Jose. Two bus bridges are operating to work around the stoppage.
Authorities believe the man, thought to be in his 20s, may be under the influence of drugs or alcohol. He has been spitting at deputies who have been trying to coax him down.
As of 8 a.m., the man remained on top of the train as negotiators from the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office attempted to talk him down, according to Brandi Childress, a spokeswoman for the Valley Transportation Authority.
