Democrats criticizing him?

Even though he has failed to win a presidential primary other than Ohio’s and is facing mounting criticism for his absence from the state, Republican presidential candidate John Kasich insists he will remain in the race until the GOP convention in Cleveland.

Coming off a distant second place and winning only three delegates last week in the New York primary, Kasich continues to campaign for Tuesday’s primaries in Pennsylvania and Maryland, arguing he has a better chance than either New York billionaire Donald Trump or Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas to defeat likely Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.

Kasich contends that if neither Trump nor Cruz will enter the convention with the 1,237 delegates needed for a first-ballot nomination, Republicans will turn to him, prompting Kasich to tell ABC’s “This Week” this month that a contested convention “will be so cool.”

Yet while Kasich clings to a strategy others believe is based on wishful thinking, his persistence is fueling sharp criticism from many Republicans. They see his candidacy as inadvertently helping Trump, whose record-high disapproval ratings among American voters would make it difficult for him to capture the presidency, to win the nomination.
