Bernie Sanders won the Democratic caucuses in Alaska and Washington state Saturday, according to the Associated Press. The victories boosted the Vermont senator as he seeks to cut into Hillary Clinton’s substantial delegate lead and gain fresh momentum in his bid for their party’s presidential nomination.

Sanders, who campaigned aggressively on the West Coast this week, also sought victory in the Hawaii caucuses Saturday after recent defeats to Clinton in the Midwest and delegate rich-Arizona.

Washington state, with 101 delegates up for grabs, was Saturday’s biggest prize. Sanders drew more than 15,000 to a Seattle baseball stadium Friday, his sixth rally in the state, where he hopes a passionate following among liberal activists will help him prevail.

Sixteen delegates were at stake in Alaska and 25 in Hawaii.

“We are making significant inroads in Secretary Clinton’s lead and we have … a path toward victory,” Sanders told a crowd in Madison, Wis., Saturday, following his Alaska win. “It is hard for anyone to deny that our campaign has the momentum.”

Sanders has drawn enthusiastic crowds to hear his fiery speeches and pulled millions of dollars into his campaign coffers from legions of online donors, but he still has difficult path to the nomination.
