Some community members are concerned after they received a pamphlet announcing an event about the rising of the Antichrist to be held at a Midlands school.
The information was mailed to residents promoting the seminar and stating it would be held at Irmo Elementary school next week. However, Lexington Richland School District Five says it’s not affiliated with the controversial Bible seminar being held at the school.
School District officials explained, under District rules, the organization is allowed to host the seminar. District policy states organizations promoting the welfare of the community are allowed to use school facilities, which includes religious groups. The policy also states organizations have to complete a request to use the facility to the principal of the school. If approved, the request will then go to District officials for final approval. That policy, however, does not sit well with some residents.
“The school is for teaching not for preaching,” said Columbia resident Susi Wolfson. “I mean if you wanna have a Bible class have a Bible class. I don’t know go to a church, go somewhere to a hotel or to an auditorium or somebody’s house or something. I think the school is not the right place.”
