‘Yazidi girls who escaped Islamic State captivity told The New York Times their captors forced them to use birth control in order to be able to continue raping them. Islamic State rules do not permit the raping of sex-slaves who are pregnant.
Some of the young women and girls reported being made to swallow the pill.
“Every day, I had to swallow one in front of him,” an unnamed Yazidi girl said of her captor. “He gave me one box per month. When I ran out, he replaced it. When I was sold from one man to another, the box of pills came with me.”
Others reported being injected with contraceptive drugs before being raped.
“Each month, he made me get a shot,” said an 18-year old, who was sold to an ISIS governor. “It was his assistant who took me to the hospital. On top of that he also gave me birth control pills. He told me, ‘We don’t want you to get pregnant’.”
The young women also reported that adherence to the rules was erratic, with some “owners” using double or triple forms of contraception and others simply raping them without worrying.
On the whole, contraception was widely used in order to keep the girls available for sex at all times.
