The House Judiciary Committee next week is expected to take the Obama administration to task over the latest border surge of illegal immigrants from Central America.
“The recent influx of illegal immigrants across our southwest border is a predictable consequence of the Obama administration’s failure to enforce our immigration laws,” Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte, R-Va., said Friday. “This not only threatens our national security and public safety, it also endangers those unaccompanied minors risking their lives traveling to the U.S. border.”
The Feb. 4 hearing will include three GOP witnesses who are likely to criticize the administration’s handling of the border surge, which has resulted in the U.S. entry of thousands of illegal immigrants now being held in detention centers or released pending adjudication.
The witness list includes Brandon Judd, a Border Patrol agent and president of the American Federation of Government Employees’ National Border Patrol Council.
Goodlatte has also invited Texas Department of Public Safety Director Steven McCraw and Jessica Vaughan, who is director of policy studies for the Center for Immigration Studies, which advocates for reduced immigration.
Democrats have not yet announced any witnesses.
