Not-so-bold prediction time: Feminists will still complain.
Via NY Post:
Barbie’s got back.
A new “curvy” version of the iconic doll will have a butt — and a gut — after feminists and other critics complained that the original big-busted, tiny-waisted frame represents an unrealistic beauty standard.
News of Barbie’s makeover was first reported by Time.com.
New versions of the doll will feature other body types, petite and tall, as well as different skin tones, hairstyles and outfits, with a total of 33 new variations being rolled out by the end of the year.
Toy giant Mattel is updating the 57-year-old blond icon in a bid to grab a new generation of girls who would prefer to play with electronics or Legos. Sales of Barbie tumbled 14 percent in the most recently reported quarter.
“We believe we have a responsibility to girls and parents to reflect a broader view of beauty,” said Evelyn Mazzocco, global general manager of the Barbie line.
