Cop managed to respond in time, or he could be the third cop killed over the past day.
Via NY Post:
An off-duty police officer shot a mugger during an attempted robbery in The Bronx, after one of the thieves ordered, “He’s a cop, shoot him!”
The cop, identified by sources as Sgt. Esteban Abreu, had finished his shift at 2 a.m. and had just parked his car when three men approached him near the corner of Creston Avenue and East 179th Street at 3:54 a.m.
One of the suspects pulled a knife on Abreu, telling him to hand over his cell phone and wallet, law enforcement sources said.
As the officer emptied his pockets, his police badge and ID card fell to the floor, according to sources.
Someone shouted, “He’s a cop,” then said, “shoot him, shoot him,” in Spanish, law enforcement sources said. One of the robbers then pulled out a gun, police said.
