Two police officers have been shot and are in critical but stable condition, and one suspect has been killed in Holladay.
The shootings occurred Sunday morning near 2100 E. 4500 South, according to the Unified Police Department. Police may have been in a pursuit prior to the shootings, said Lt. Lex Bell.
The incident began about 9:50 a.m. with a traffic accident near 2300 E. and 4500 S. Two people reportedly left the scene of the accident.
Police responded to the accident, and there was a confrontation that left one male suspect dead and two officers wounded. Police could not immediately derive more details about the confrontation.
According to a neighbor who lives near the scene, he heard a single gunshot at around 10 a.m., looked out his window, and saw one officer down in a cul-de-sac near his house. The neighbor said other officers tried to keep the wounded officer alert and breathing until medics arrived.
About a minute past the first gunshot, the neighbor heard “a hail of gunfire,” which the neighbor estimated to be about 20-25 rounds within a 5-second time frame.
Police are still looking for a female suspect. They do not know who she is nor have they identified the dead suspect.
