Ted Cruz put out a funny ad of himself reading Christmas stories with his family.

Now of course, candidates since time in memoriam, have had their family in ads. But apparently that was too much for WaPo cartoonist, Ann Telnaes, prompting her to do this:

When told it was over the top, offensive and perhaps even a bit racist, her response was:

Her editor did not agree, and ultimately pulled the cartoon, after it had already run.

Editor’s note from Fred Hiatt: It’s generally been the policy of our editorial section to leave children out of it. I failed to look at this cartoon before it was published. I understand why Ann thought an exception to the policy was warranted in this case, but I do not agree.

Cruz responded, saying attack him, not his children.

Funny, but how this ad did not spark Ms. Telnaes to draw a cartoon of Hillary’s well-used grandchild.
