We ran her story before, and wanted to follow up on how happy she has been to get the cards from folks all over the world. She actually spells her name Sa’fyre, if you want to send her a card.
ROTTERDAM, N.Y. — A little girl who lost her family and suffered disfiguring burns in an arson fire is having an incredible Christmas, thanks to the generosity of thousands of strangers around the world who were moved by her simple Facebook wish.
“This year’s been magical, amazing,” said Liz Dolder, who posted a picture of her niece, Safyre Terry, on Facebook earlier this month. The post showed Safyre with a Christmas card tree Dolder got at a thrift store, and said the 8-year-old hoped to get enough cards to fill it.
“I haven’t found a word in my vocabulary to describe what has happened,” Dolder said Wednesday.
Kevin Clark, a member of a motorcycle group who met Safyre at a benefit bikers held for her this fall, reposted the picture. Before long, it had been shared tens of thousands of times, and cards and gifts started pouring in from across the United States and overseas.
