Readers had mixed reactions to a federal judge’s ruling that Concord High School can’t organize, rehearse or present any Nativity scene that has live performers.

The judge granted the preliminary injunction Wednesday in a federal lawsuit against Concord Community Schools. The lawsuit alleges that the schools’ annual Christmas pageant is overly religious and unconstitutionally endorses Christianity. The Freedom From Religion Foundation and American Civil Liberties Union filed the original complaint on behalf of a Concord High School student, who is part of the performing arts department, and his father.

Thing is, the number of comments on The Elkhart Truth’s website and Facebook page supporting and opposing the ruling is split down the middle. Those who supported the ruling said that religion and public institutions should be separate, and not all of the readers who opposed the ruling identified themselves as being religious.
