A feel good story to start off Sunday morning.
Via RTV6:
A Korean War veteran needed a new furnace when his stopped working. He could not afford to have the furnace repaired or to get a new one.
But in his words, an angel appeared in the form of a fellow veteran.
86-year-old Gerald Miller called Jake’s Heating and Air Conditioning when his furnace broke down.
Luckily, the technician that was sent out was a veteran, too.
33-year-old Joshua Russell served in the Air Force and eagerly evaluated the furnace.
“It’s inefficient. It’s gas. It’s not very safe. We were going to put something in there that he can rely on the furnace,” Russell said.
“It’s just like an angel coming down and picking me up out of the gutter and putting me back on my feet. On my foot,” Miller said.
Despite his circumstances, Miller has a sense of humor. His leg was amputated six months ago and he can only move short distances with the help of his walker.
But it was Russell who was moved.
When he learned that Miller couldn’t pay for the furnace, he got his boss to pay for a new $2,800 unit, and got co-workers to volunteer $1,400 worth of labor to install it.
“He just started bawling and I lost it. He said I was an angel and it just completely shut me down. Very emotional. Just to help another veteran, I can’t say enough about my team,” Russell said.
