Three popular businesses in Panama City, Fla., have filed suit in federal court, challenging city ordinances designed to tone down the increasingly large and unruly spring break crowds, according to AL.com. Club LaVela, Harpoon Harry’s and Spinnaker filed suit “as a necessary means of vindicating their civil rights and challenging these recently adopted city regulations that are both unreasonable and unnecessary,” Luke Lirot, the attorney who filed the suit, said in a news release.
Earlier this year, the Beach Council in Panama City banned alcohol on the beach next March and approved other measures aimed at keeping the celebrations from getting out of hand. Bay County Sheriff’s Office records show that the number of arrests, drug charges and firearms taken into evidence in March 2015 were all up sharply from last year, according to AL.com.
