Columbia, SC isn’t Ferguson.
Via WSMV:
Several groups are planning to protest outside the State House on Saturday following the release of a video showing a school resource officer violently slamming and dragging a female student from her desk inside a Spring Valley High School classroom.
Black Lives Matter, Black Educators for Justice, and Black Lawyers for Justice are planning to protest at 3 p.m. in downtown Columbia.
These are the same groups represented earlier this year during that infamous day of protests when a North Carolina Klan organization showed up at the State House.
The groups say they will demand the charges be dropped against the girl in this case and a second girl. They also want several school administrators fired and the send of school resource officers in schools.
“And so it’s an event in which we are all coming together to uphold our young sister and the community that has been traumatized by another act of terrorism by sworn officers that are supposed to be protecting and serving,” Muhiyidin D’Baha, a representative of Black Lives Matter, said. “So the first part is to gather us together to say that we’re going to stand up for our children because that was not okay no matter what she might have done. There’s no reason that an adult especially a sworn protector should be abusing children especially in front of other children.”
The protest activities may not be confined to the State House. The groups say they have allowed “creative space” in their schedule that could be used to stage a related protest at the Richland County Sheriff’s Department headquarters on Two Notch Road.
