Several hundred people gathered Saturday to show their support for police officers and call for an end to the violence that permeates the city’s streets.
Those in attendance at the pro-police Sea of Blue rally on Mall C said community members must work with law enforcement officials to curb the violence that has the city of Cleveland on track to experience one of its deadliest years in nearly a decade.
The event was the second pro-police rally held in the city of Cleveland within the past 10 months. Nearly 2,500 people were in attendance last December at the city’s first Sea of Blue rally, which included a march from Public Square to the Greater Cleveland Peace Officers Memorial on Lakeside Avenue at West 3rd Street.
Those in attendance Saturday included WHK radio host Bob Frantz and former Cleveland Browns wide receiver Reggie Rucker, who is president of the Cleveland Peacemakers Alliance.
Frantz urged the crowd to be vocal in their support for police officers. Frantz said community members must work with their police departments to keep their streets safe.
“I fear we’re getting numb,” Frantz said. “Do not let your resolve dissipate. Stay committed to bringing our communities together, because black lives matter, white lives matter, all lives matter.”
