A British man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for conspiring to set up a terrorist training camp in the United States.
Haroon Aswat, a paranoid schizophrenic from Dewsbury [U.K.], was sentenced in the US after being extradited there three years ago. He was convicted of travelling there in 1999 at the behest of hate preacher Abu Hamza with the intent of setting up the camp.
He spent two months in Seattle trying to buy land for the camp, and if the plan had succeeded would have provided religious training there.
He later travelled to Pakistan where he met two men who would later go on to be bombers in the 7/7 attack in London.
