Time for a candid discussion about gun control.

North Charleston police say an armed suspect who was shot by a customer during an armed robbery attempt Saturday morning has died from a gunshot wound.

He has been identified as 19-year-old Joshua Davis, of North Charleston.

The Charleston County Coroner’s Office released a statement Saturday afternoon stating they had identified the suspect, but that the identity would not be released until the family was notified.

Police responded shortly before 5 a.m. at the Waffle House located at 6907 Dorchester Rd. on a report of a robbery and shooting, according to North Charleston Police Lt. Angela Johnson.

A preliminary investigation revealed a customer wounded the armed suspect during the incident, Johnson said. The customer has a valid concealed weapons permit and no charges have been filed against the customer, but police are still investigating, Johnson said.

“Ongoing efforts by the Coroner’s Office and North Charleston Police Department to identify the suspect have been unsuccessful,” Johnson said.

The only description provided by police describes the suspect as “a young, male with dark hair approximately 5’9” in height and 150 lbs.”
