A DeKalb County police officer was shot Friday afternoon while attempting a traffic stop on Lawrenceville Highway near Northlake Parkway in Tucker, according to police.

When the officer pulled the vehicle over at a gas station, two suspects got out, crashed their car and shots were fired, Cedric Alexander, DeKalb police chief, told reporters at the scene. Both suspects ran from the scene.

The officer, whose name was not released, was shot in the shoulder and was flown to Grady Memorial Hospital in a DeKalb police helicopter, Alexander said. The officer was in stable condition, Alexander said.
